New Domain!!! Thanks to the Wulf

Thursday, January 20th, 2011

I’m pretty much set in my new domain now, thanks to the tender webmastery of the Wulf. Things have been passed over, and spring cleaning has taken place, and new horizons are opening up. This should mark another flurry of activity, so stay tuned!

Also, read my druid journal if you’d like at Posterous. :)

The Traveling Druid Bag

Thursday, September 16th, 2010

As I work with the druid culture and beliefs I’ve found that the best rituals I’ve performed are outside, in nature. This has one main drawback: it’s not always convenient to carry all the things along that you need for a ritual. I often have an “urge” to go and worship, or something in my life causes me to “need” to hold a ritual. If I’m not prepared, it can take an hour or so to gather everything together for a full ritual. I’ve solved this by putting together a Druid Bag. (more…)

Making Runes

Friday, August 27th, 2010

So I have a set of Druid Animal Oracle cards that I LOVE to use. The problem is that they are like 3″ x 5″ and are way too big to actually carry around with me conveniently…

I also have been thinking about trying out runes, but the typical rune symbols hold no meaning for me and it’s rather daunting to look at starting to memorize an entire alphabet right now, what with work/school/religion studies…

Solution! I’m going to make a set of runes to represent the animal oracle I’m already familiar with! Planning on making a practice set first, getting a wooden dowel from the hardware store and slicing it into chips, then dremeling the symbols in. Eventually I want to find a downed branch of the right size and make them from scratch, maybe even carving them in rather than using the dremel.

The problem with that is finding the right kind of wood. I’m discovering that the branches I find in my grove are much too easily broken. :/ So the search begins for a good rune-chip providing stick! And in the meantime, I need to find images to carve into the runes…

Druid Networking? Flail

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

So… I joined ADF and subscribed to the email list thingies. They suck. I hate email lists. They always make me read tons of stuff I don’t want to read just to get to the stuff I DO.

I contacted the listmaster, who also appears to be my regional person, asking why they don’t use a real forum… and basically got an answer back of “we’ve been doing it this way for 15 years and it works, thanks for asking.”

Way to try to include people. I’m kinda pissed about it. It was a very polite question I thought, and it could help make the people like me, that are far away from everyone else, feel like part of the community. But what do I know. The website itself is very nice, but they need to get out of the IRC age and connect better. :/

Bad first step I suppose. Doubt I’ll be bothering with the regional person again any time soon, so I hope other people are more helpful.

Beginning my path in the druid beliefs

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

I guess it’s not really the technical beginning… I’ve been skulking about on the edges of it for a few years now. But just the other day I applied for membership to a legal druid “church” organization. Ar nDraiocht Fein (without the little tick marks cause I can’t remember how to make them :/) is the name of the organization.

The materials to start on my decadent path have been shipped out, apparently, and soon I’ll begin upon my chosen path. It’s a bit nerve-wracking, if I’m honest. It’s not because I’m nervous about the path… it’s that I’m a bit nervous about people’s reactions. In particular, my family. Most of my family are only very loosely described as religious, but there are a few that quietly believe.

I’m sitting here, reading over what I just wrote, and realized something… I think that merely writing that down (or typing in this case) was the last thing I needed to push myself over that edge. It was the last finger letting go of the grip I had of how I was brought up, and what I’m “meant” to believe in according to my family.

I am a druid. Legally even. ;)

blargging

Feeling rather ill today. So I though it’s a great time to try to write in my blog, right? I have had a number of lightbulbs go on in my head these last few weeks. (more…)

The stuff of Legend

Monday, June 28th, 2010

Picked up a book on Celtic mythology at the local B&N… started reading it and my daughter decided she wanted me to read outloud to her. So I read her the story of the ever-living ones, how the children of Danu were brought into being, and how they made their way to the Island of Destiny and fought with the Formorri (sp?)… She loved it. We sat down to read another, The story of the sons of something or another… 3 men that killed a rival and had to do herculean quests in penance… my son sat in on that one too… and they loved it.

So my daughter is asking questions about Druids. :)

Today I worked through a site on pronouncing Irish. Think it’ll help if I’m gonna be reading outloud some more ;)

I iz be priestess? LOL

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

I’m a druid… not a very good druid, but a druid nonetheless… something like most christians are christians but don’t really go to church. Apparently God still loves them even if they would rather sleep in once in a while on sundays. Considering druids don’t technically have church, I suppose I’m good there. Still trying to work out the little details of all of it since I am a lazy druid.

Anyway, the point, before I lose it again… I’m looking for a group so to speak. I’ve browsed the online druid organizations… most are either too new-agey for me, or they seem like scams. While I do occasionally hug trees, I’m not a loon. But I’m also not going to pay hundreds of dollars in order to become a REAL LIFE DRUID PRIESTESS!!!! Even if that would be totally wikid to put on a resume or a business card… kinda like being knighted is just awesome beyond belief. (Dear Mrs. Queen, I promise I’d serve you faithfully and entertain you always, Love Keil)

So… looking for a group of people that are more than chanting love spells and debating which crystals do what for bodily functions. Looking for those quietly content in their belief without needing all the pageantry. The pageantry can be fun, but it’s just not really me. Drop me a line!

ps. Yes, this is a shameless ploy for like-minded friends. But it’s my blog and I can write whatever I like. :p

Imbolc

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

“Imbolc or Oimelc in Irish Gaelic literally means “ewe’s milk,” and it was once a festival kept by shepherds; it celebrated the end of the harsh weather of winter, but little is known about how it was once kept. In modern Druid practice and in many other Pagan traditions, this festival is dedicated to Brigid, the Irish goddess (and later Christian saint) of poetry, healing, and ironwork. It represents the first stirring of the light and warmth of spring.”

I have no lambs. I have nobody who HAS lambs nearby. Therefore today is declared my Imbolc day. Blessings to everyone for a fruitful year, may you have prosperity and plenty in the coming months. :)

Musing

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

Today is a strange day. The mood is one of contentment, yet deep “sadness”… musing perhaps is the word? I’m not sure what’s gotten it started, but it’s a mood that doesn’t lend well to working on craptasitically designed wall panels. That’s why I’m writing here instead maybe. I supposed I’ll have to draw these at some point, but my ambition is very lacking right now. >.>

Don’t kill the messenger. The message will likely do it for you… That popped into my head today. Seems fitting. Life knows why.

I think I’m going to try my daily writing on here from now on. Maybe that will make me use it more often, eh? It’s too long between posts to be a proper blog otherwise. And waiting for my code monkey to finish the next incarnation of my site is just an excuse not to post. So now, daily posting hopefully.

Was thinking about joining a druid society. Even wrote to one, but got less than an encouraging response back. And for the record, I hate Yahoo Groups. Maybe I should keep flying solo and the “right” place will come to me? In the meantime I think I’ll get my record of ordination all sorted, and my passport.

I need to pester my webdesigner…
